Obstructive Sleep Apnea/Snoring

Snoring:

Snoring can now be easily controlled with dental appliances and/or occasional minor (and almost painless) injections to the palate. We suggest that you not consider any radical, painful and irreversible surgery, which is in our opinion, outdated and unnecessary.

Again, we suggest that you not consider any radical, painful and irreversible surgery for this condition, which is in our opinion, outdated and unnecessary.

Modern techniques of jaw surgery can be very appropriate for this condition, but again, you will want to discuss non-surgical options with your surgeon.

OSA is a dangerous and potentially life threatening condition which can have a marked effect on quality of life.

In the past, the main therapy available for this condition was CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). This therapy is effective, but has several problems:
- expensive
- very uncomfortable
- inconvenient
- noisy,
- according to literary research, only 25-50% of CPAP patients actually use them.

More modern approaches can almost entirely replace CPAP devices. Many patients embrace these options with enthusiasm.

Dental appliances occasionally combined with minor and almost painless palate stiffening injections can provide an excellent alternative.

Advantages:
- less expensive than CPAP
- convenient
- comfortable
- less intrusive on lifestyle
- non surgical, reversible and non invasive
- almost 100% compliance – pts. use them
- well documented.

This is a complex condition to assess and treat therefore, a consultation is required with Dr. Thompson in order to assess your particular needs. We can provide general information if wished.

For a surgical procedure, Dr. Thompson recommends a second opinion and a discussion of non-surgical procedures.
